Twitter… Abuse the trend!

I am really a person that likes to stand out from the crowd, and if the crowd spots a trend, most of the time I am very suspicious. Do I follow? What I most likely do in this situation is the following: Abuse the trend!

Twitter is a lot of fun and all they tell you is how you can stay in contact with friends and people who care about you, like in this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddO9idmax0o&feature=channel. But do we really want to know that my cousin in Haarlem-Noord is chilling in his garden? Do I want to know that Anouk is getting laid? Hell No!

I found a new way to use Twitter in my advantage. A way to keep up with everything that’s going on in the world that really matters, or at least the tweet is such a intellectual tweet that it is ok… Just find people who really have something to say. Things that you can learn from and because it’s instant information, it helps you apply the right knowledge at the right moment.

Find out what the authors of the books are discovering the moment you are reading their book! Find out how top managers are making their way through the crisis… That’s interesting stuff.

It’s lonely at the top, but with Twitter we can hear them shout….

Domino’s delivers pizza to doors on beach and in parks!

Most people order pizzas when they’re at home or at work. Aiming to broaden those delivery horizons, Domino’s Pizza in the Netherlands recently placed white doors in the park and on the beach.

Dubbed Domino’s Delivery Points, the doors prominently featured the company’s phone number, as well as doorbells for delivery people to ring. Dutch director of marketing André ten Wolde explained that as long as they’re within delivery range of a local Domino’s, customers can have a pizza delivered pretty much anywhere: at the beach, on a boat, in the park, etc.

Targetting summer beach crowds and an influx of students in Amsterdam, the campaign—developed by creative agency Indie Amsterdam—draws on the power of showing instead of telling. Does your product or service have hidden benefits that you could demonstrate in an equally effective (and cost-effective) manner? Subscale IQ score = 120
Subscale percentile = 91

Friday office innovation

An argument could, quite successfully, be made that everything should contain a bottle opener. Board-shorts come with on on an elastic cord for easy surf-and-suds. Bike wrenches are often notched with a lid-popping slot, and there are even bottle-opener/cigarette-lighter combos.

You may notice a trend. All of these tools are likely to be owned and used by already calm, relaxed people. The poor, stressed, cubicle-manacled office worker, the person who really needs a quick brew as soon as they get outside the building, will have to carry a regular opener and risk the suspicions of co-workers and supervisors. After all, have you ever seen a combined stapler and opener?

Those poor sheep now have a savior in the form of the After Office Tie, a necktie whose tip has been replaced with a steel slot for popping caps. A concept whose time has surely come, the After Office Tie also has the advantage of weighing the band of fabric down for a more sober angle of dangle.

This will of course be useless at the Wired.com HQ, filled as it is with tie-hating hippies who don’t have to work for more than five minutes before the Beer Robot serves them a mid-morning brewski. Not that I’m jealous, of course.
